PROGRAM
The Tour Ronde is the highest peak of the ridge between Mount Maudit and the Col du Géant. The climb, which can be completed in a day, is along a varied and pleasant route, without major technical difficulties. It affords splendid views of a glacier and some passages out of a crevasse. A real mountain, which allows you to experience something very characteristic compared to other challenging climbs in the Mont Blanc group. From the peak to the West, you can admire the Brenva side of Mont Blanc between Aiguille Blanche and Mont Maudit. From the North to the East the eye sweeps over the peaks that have made the history of mountaineering: Mont Blanc du Tacul, Aiguille du Midi, Les Drus, Aiguille Verte, Les Droites, Dent du Géant, Aiguille de Rochefort and the Grandes Jorasses.
Difference in altitude: 750 m
Ascent/descent time: 6-8 hours
Meeting point: Skyway cable car parking area at 7.30 a.m. for equipment check and a short briefing.
From Courmayeur (Entrevès village), we take the Skyway cable car to Punta Helbronner. We put on the crampons and head to the Glacier du Géant towards the Col Flambeaux, where we go down for a few hundred metres before starting to climb towards the Col d’Entrèves (3,517 m). From the pass, we climb a steep snow slope until we reach the rocky ridge. We follow the ridge with fun and easy climbing passages up until we reach Col Freshfield (3,640 m).
From there, we climb on a snowy shoulder until we reach the last few metres of rock leading up to the summit (3,795 m) and its wonderful landscape. If the going allows it, we can go down from the slope coming from the Freshfield pass, which is easier and faster, until we cross the trail of the first leg.
