PROGRAM

An incredible climb up the massive south face of Mont Blanc. The route is exhausting and often inconspicuous, with a number of tough sections of rock climbing in the lower section (a key pitch being a 40-metre, 5b gully climb) and mixed climbing, including some ice, in the final ascent. A close-knit team is a must, as is a window of stable weather.

GROUP DEPARTURES

DAY

Difference in altitude: 2,280 m
Ascent time: 6-8 hours
Meeting point: SkyWay cable car parking area for equipment checking and a short briefing with the Guide before a short transfer to the Veny Valley.

From La Visaille in the Veny Valley, a man-made trail, with climbing aids, will lead us to the Monzino Hut (2,561 m), where we will stop for a bite to eat. The next stretch leads us over the Brouillard Glacier, where we will have to avoid the maze of crevasses to reach the Col du Freney. Short sections of rock will then take us up to the Eccles Bivouac (3,852 m) where we will stop for the night.

DAY

Difference in altitude: 1,000 m
Descent gain: 2,500 m
Ascent/descent time: 10-12 hours

From the Eccles Bivouac, we will go down to the glacier on the Brouillard side, before climbing again to Col Eccles (4,041 m). A series of narrow, snowy ridges will then lead us to the rocks, where we will climb up fissures and gruelling gullies towards the red towers. We will then head left over mixed rock and snow to a point from which we can access the Brouillard Ridge. From here, our route leads to the summit of Mont Blanc, offering breath-taking scenery and views along the way.
Depending on the conditions, we will descend by either the Goûter or the Cosmiques side.
