Makalu Trekking


Makalu trekking will take you in one of the most remote and pristine valleys of Nepal, through terracing, quaint villages, sub-tropical jungle, rain forest and high mountains.

PROGRAM

1° DAY
Arrival in Kathmandu-Nepal.

2° DAY
Rest day in Kathmandu. Time for sightseeing, getting our trekking permits and last minute buying of materials and food for the trekking.

3° DAY
Flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and transfer by car to Chichira (1,980 m).

4° DAY
From Chichira we will hike to Num (1,560 m). The first part of the trail winds up along hills, through rice paddies and villages, following the course of the river Arun.

5° DAY
From Num to Seduwa (1,500 m), where the entrance of Makalu Barun National Park is.

6° DAY
From Seduwa to Tashigaon (2,100 m). In this stage the trails become steeper and less visited, crops are more difficult to grow and the architecture changes radically. At Tashigaon the wooden houses are placed on pillars that look like mushrooms and are very similar to Walser’s raccards. It is true that, in the mountains, similar problems lead to similar solutions!

7° DAY
From Tashigaon to Kongma Danda (3,500 m).

8° DAY
Rest day for acclimatization.

9° DAY
Trekking from Kongma Danda to Dobate (2,415 m), which leads us to go beyond the Shipton (4,200 m) pass and enter the Barun Valley. This valley leads directly to the base camp of Makalu. In this area, there are no villages, only pastures for the yaks. The vegetation is sparse and the air thin.

10° DAY
From Dobate to Yangri Karka (3,557 m).

11° DAY
From Yangri Karka to Langmale Karka (4,410 m).

12° DAY
Arrival at Makalu’s base camp (4,870 m). We will take time to explore the surroundings.

13° DAY
Having reached the Makalu’s base camp, it’s time to start our hike back and we head to Yangri Karka.

14° DAY
From Yangri Karka to Dobate.

15° DAY
From Dobate to Kongma Danda.

16° DAY
From Kongma Danda to Tashigaon.

17° DAY
From Tashigaon to Seduwa.

18° DAY
From Seduwa to Walung.

19° DAY
From Walung to Salewa.

20° DAY
From Salewa to Salpa Phedi.

21° DAY
From Salpa Phedi to Sanam

22° DAY
Rest day in Sanam.

23° DAY
From Sanam to Gudel.

24° DAY
From Gudel to Pangum.

25° DAY
From Pangum to Charikola.

26° DAY
From Charikola to Lukla.

27° DAY
From Jomsom to Kagbeni.

28° DAY
Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu.

29° DAY
Rest day in Kathmandu.

30° DAY
Departure from Kathmandu.

RATES

€ 4.500 to be shared by participants
The rate includes
  • the assistance of a UIAGM certified Mountain Guide
  • liability insurance
  • loan of shared safety material

The rate does not include
  • research and rescue insurance with UVGAM coverage (recommended): €40 per person for 1 year
  • the Mountain Guide’s expenses (flights, transfers, meals and accommodation) to be covered by participants
  • flights, transfers by means of local transportation
  • meals and accommodation
  • other expenses
  • anything that is not mentioned under "The rate includes"
Notes
  • It is crucial that participants follow all instructions provided by the mountain guides before and during the activities, and that they accept any changes made to the programme in order to guarantee their safety.
  • Fees for lift facilities, transfers and mountain lodges are subject to changes established and applied by the respective owners without any liability attributable to PEAKSHUNTER Mountain Guides.
  • The rates listed in the “The rate does not include” section are to be considered merely indicative and are therefore subject to changes.
  • PEAKSHUNTER Mountain Guides reserves the right to change any route or activity programme based on conditions (weather, accessibility, refuge) and participants’ fitness level.
